

A Bit About Me
Dan Walters is a Sergeant with the Roanoke County Police Department having served with the agency since 1998. He is a graduate of Radford University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Sociology. Sergeant Walters is currently assigned to the Special Operations Division as the supervisor over the School Resource Officer (SRO) unit. The SRO unit is comprised of 19 officers who are assigned to the 27 schools in the Roanoke County Public School system.
In addition to his supervisory roles, Walters is an instructor in the Roanoke County Criminal Justice Academy and is the Crisis Intervention Training Coordinator. He is an active member of the Prevention Council of Roanoke County, the Roanoke Valley Suicide Prevention Coalition, the Community Policy and Management Team (CPMT), the Roanoke Valley Regional Utilization Committee, and the National Association of School Resource Officers (NASRO).
Since 2021, Walters has educated the Roanoke Valley community in Active Threat Planning and Preparation and Behavioral Threat Assessment and Management. He has presented at many public and private school events, and provided much needed crime and violence prevention awareness to local businesses, churches and civic organizations. Walters is certified as a General Instructor through the Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS) to include specialties in Crisis Intervention and Trauma Informed Criminal Justice Response.
